La Carmela de Boracay Review

La Carmela de Boracay is a mid-range beachfront hotel that’s located in the far south of Station 2. In this review I’ll cover the place in detail…

Among other topics, I’ll discuss its main charms, its location details, its highlight worthy amenities, the best rooms, how to contact them, plus I’ll also cover both its pros and cons.

Once read you should have a very good idea of what to expect, and if it’s the right place to stay for you.

About La Carmela & Its Location

Station 2 is the lively center of White Beach, where you’ll find many restaurants and nightlife. La Carmela de Boracay is located at the southern end of Station 2, which is a little quieter, so you’re close to the action but not quite in it.

If you’re looking for a hotel which is decently priced but just a few steps away from the beach, La Carmela is worth considering. Beachfront real estate comes at a premium in Boracay, so a mid-range pick like La Carmela is quite popular with visitors, especially considering it has affordable options for groups.

La Carmela is close to the seafood market D’Talipapa, and a good number of restaurants and nightlife, so getting food and drinks isn’t a problem.

What the hotel can improve on though is its facilities. Wi-Fi is available but at an extra charge, and some items such as towels look a bit tired.

  • Competitive price for a beachfront location
  • Close to nightlife and restaurants
  • Big rooms available to accommodate bigger groups
  • Facilities could use some maintenance or updates
  • No free Wi-Fi in rooms

Walking distances to some of the closeby points of interests are: 10 minutes to D’mall, 5 minutes to the D’Talipapa seafood market, and just a minute to Station 3.

Highlight Worthy Amenities

La Carmela has most of the basic amenities that you’ll need for a beach vacation. The hotel has three swimming pools, including a jacuzzi, as well as a poolside bar so you can kick back with a drink.

Buffet breakfast is provided, and there’s also a 24-hour restaurant, Café La Carmela, where you can get a bite even after a night out. You can also book reasonably priced in-room massages after a long day of sightseeing.

The hotel offers helpful services, such as arranging land or boat transfers for you, and they can help you with scuba diving and water sports bookings as well.

My Top 3 Room Recommendations

If you’re traveling on a budget, consider the Semi Deluxe room in the main building. It’s a simple, no-frills room with a small balcony, and it can sleep up to 2 adults and 2 children.

For those traveling with family, the Panorama Super Deluxe room in the Executive Wing is worth looking at. It’s a spacious, loft-style unit with a small balcony, and can sleep up to 8.

Finally, if an ocean view is what you’re looking for, have a look at the African Safari Suite. The hotel has several different themed suites with ocean views from a terrace. The spacious African Safari Suite in particular, is decorated with fun animal prints and safari elements throughout.

What Guests Say & My Take

La Carmela de Boracay is rated 7.0 on Agoda with over 7700 reviews at the moment of writing, 3.5 on Google and 3.0 out of 5 on TripAdvisor. This isn’t the best rating to be honest. Most of its popularity is coming from its affordability, not from its service quality. That’s something you’ll have to keep in mind.

Personally I feel that La Carmela is a mid-range pick worth considering, as it’s a beachfront hotel in Station 2 with a competitive price tag. Their facilities and maintenance could use an update, but if proximity to White Beach and affordability are what you’re there for, La Carmela is one of your options.

I recommend you also have a look at the alternatives to La Carmela that I list at the end of this page though.

Alternatives to La Carmela de Boracay

If you’re still shopping around for accommodations, here are some alternatives that are around the same price or just a little higher than La Carmela:

Nigi Nigi Nu Noos

Nigi Nigi consists of 40 traditional Filipino nipa hut cottages. It’s a nice place that’ll give you a tropical paradise vibe, compared to the standard concrete buildings in La Carmela. The resort’s restaurant also offers a wide variety of cuisine including Filipino food, which is worth a try.

The Tides Hotel

If Boracay’s vibrant nightlife is what you’re after, consider staying at The Tides. It’s located inside D’Mall, and they offer discounts at several partner restaurants and bars. The Tides also has a rooftop bar and swimming pool, which is a great place to grab a drink, and start your night.

Victory Divers Resort

Victory Divers Resort is a basic, affordable accommodation located in the south of Station 2, within easy reach of the D’Talipapa seafood market. It’s a smaller hotel compared to La Carmela, so less busy. They also have a dive shop next door with a bar, restaurant and coconut stand – a good place to hang out and watch the sunset.
